Waksman, Selman
(1888-1973)
   American biochemist of Ukrainian origin, born in Priluka, in the Ukraine, he went to the US at the age of 22. He studied at the University of California and was a professor at Rutgers University. He received the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology in 1952. His works include Principles of Soil Microbiology, The Conquest of Tuberculosis and My Life with the Microbes.
